Our take on….John Lewis’ services strategy

John Lewis is seriously bucking the high street sales trend.   Sales up w/e Dec 4 9.6% on last year’s equivalent snow hit period and 10.9pc up in the same week of 2009 according to the Telegraph last Sunday.

MD Mr Street (fab name!) puts it down to, in large parts, being better trusted by customers when they are more careful with spending in tough economic times.      And we imagine being more trusted will help him with his future service strategy too.     John Lewis plan to sell more services in store, diversifying the role of their retail space beyond goods.      We like this very much.    Going into John Lewis is a brilliant, indulgent experience.   Their staff are super-experienced and always able to help with any query, so to also be able to experience more services like beauty and travel too, we’re looking forward to being right up Mr Street’s street.

We can only imagine the possibilities, we just spent the past 30 minutes co-creating some ideas of our own, based on our own insight of going in-store.   Looking forward to seeing what we’ll experience at John Lewis in the future.
